  • PC Flying Doctors opens its doors for business with father and son team, Robin and Jonathan, ready to help local small businesses and home users with their computer needs.
  • Intel releases the first Pentium processor.
  • Microsoft releases Windows 3.11.
  • Most computers are supplied with 4MB of RAM and a 160MB hard disk.
  • 1995

  • PC Flying Doctors move from their initial base to open a concessionary store in Harts Office Supplies, in Church Street, Saffron Walden, later moving into their King Street shop.
  • We employ our first staff member, Steve, for his excellent skills with printer and monitor repairs.
  • Microsoft released Windows 95 and with it the look of Windows for the next 17 years.
  • The internet, as we know it now, is achieving massive growth.
  • Computer specifications continue to improve: RAM is up to 8MB with hard disks now available up to 1GB.
  • 1996

  • Following excellent growth we welcomed Ollie, our second technician.
  • 1997

  • Further growth saw us move into our own premises at 52 High Street, Saffron Walden.
  • Intel release the Pentium II processor.
  • The Google.com domain name is registered for the first time.
  • By the end of the year our top specification computer was equipped with a Pentium II-233, 16MB of RAM and a 4GB hard disk.
  • 1998

  • Microsoft release Windows 98.
  • The CIH virus, spread via floppy disks left in PCs, is created.
  • Our top specification computers were equipped with a Pentium II-350 processor, 64MB of RAM and 8.4GB hard disks.
  • 1999

  • The year the world went into Y2K panic. There was widespread fear that computer systems would stop working.
  • Our Platinum computers now came equipped with a Pentium III-550 processor, 128MB of RAM and a whopping 10GB hard disk!
  • 2000

  • Still here! The Y2K panic proved to be just that, a panic. Systems didn’t explode and computers didn’t go into meltdown.
  • Microsoft release Windows ME, and Windows 2000, the forerunner to Windows XP.
  • Our Platinum system came with a Pentium III-800MHz processor, 128MB of RAM and a 30GB hard disk.
  • 2001

  • Microsoft release Windows XP and their first XBOX console.
  • By the end of the year our top flight computers are now equipped with the Pentium 4 processor, 512MB of RAM, 40GB hard disk and a 15″ flat screen.
  • 2003

  • PC Flying Doctors celebrate 10 years in business with a big staff party!
  • 2007

  • Microsoft releases Windows Vista to the general public, along with Office 2007 with its new ribbon interface.
  • Our highest specification systems now come with a Core 2 Duo processor, 2GB of RAM and a 250GB hard disk.
  • 2008

  • After 15 successful years, Robin retires from full-time duties in the business.
  • We said goodbye to our store front at 52 High Street, allowing Jonathan to concentrate on what he does best, namely fix stuff!
  • 2009

  • PC Flying Doctors relocate to their new premises at Lewis House, Great Chesterford.
  • Microsoft release Windows 7.
  • 2012

  • Microsoft release Windows 8. The world shrugs its shoulders.
  • 2013

  • PC Flying Doctors are 20 years old. Our new web-site is launched and we’re looking forward to still seeing you on our 30th anniversary.
